The Patty Melt

  • 1 -1 ½ pounds ground beef or turkey
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 medium sweet onion, sliced thin
  • 4 slices Swiss cheese
  • 4 slices rye bread (or sourdough or Texas toast)
  • 2 tablespoons butter, softened
  1. Shape meat into four patties.
  2. Cook burgers on the grill, in grill pan or skillet until no longer pink in the middle, about 5-7 minutes on each side.  Melt cheese slices on each burger. 
  3. In a medium skillet, drizzle olive then add onions. Cook onions until they are caramelized.
  4. Spread bread slices with butter and toast in the skillet.
  5. Assemble patty melt by placing cheeseburgers over one slice of bread.
  6. Top with onions and other piece of bread.
